Stock rebuild

What goes into the engine

Our stock-rebuild listings describe the work below. Your quote should identify the engine, supplied components and any additional work.

01

Dismantle & inspect

The assembly is stripped and cleaned. Rods and pistons are inspected, and bearing clearances are checked.

02

Block & crankshaft

The listed rebuild includes block honing and a remanufactured, micro-polished crankshaft. The oil pump is rebuilt and tested.

03

Cylinder heads

Each head receives valve work and new valve seals under the published stock-rebuild specification.

04

Replacement components

Listed items include rings, main and rod bearings, head gaskets and bolts, timing chain, guides and tensioner, plus valve-cover and oil-pan gaskets.

Confirm the assembly contents. Turbochargers, injectors, manifolds, wiring, electronics and other external parts are not automatically included because they appear in a photo. Have the supplied components listed in your quote.

Stock replacement or modified engine?

Tell us how the car is used and what has been changed before an engine is quoted.

Replacing a standard engine

Start with the VIN, engine code and reason for replacement. Confirm which original accessories will be reused and which failed components must be replaced.

  • Identify the cause of the original failure.
  • Match the assembly and drivetrain configuration.
  • Obtain the installation and break-in instructions.
  • Review the engine price, core charge and freight separately.

Planning around modifications

Include the tune, turbocharger, fuel-system changes and intended use. A stock-rebuild price is not a quote for forged internals or custom machine work.

  • Specify any piston, connecting-rod or fastener changes.
  • List existing camshaft, valve-train and cylinder-head work.
  • Disclose track use and any power target.
  • Have availability, compatibility and coverage confirmed in writing.

Terms you may see on an engine quote

Short block and long block

These terms describe different levels of engine assembly. Ask for an itemized scope covering the block, rotating assembly, cylinder heads, timing components and external accessories. The name alone does not tell you everything supplied.

Forged components and stock components

Forged pistons or connecting rods are specific hardware choices. They should be named on the quote, with the rest of the build specification. An upgraded component by itself is not a guaranteed horsepower rating or a change to the warranty.

Cylinder sleeves and head work

Cylinder sleeves are liners fitted in the block. Cylinder-head work is a separate area and may involve valves, seals, springs, camshafts or port work. Confirm the required machining and assembly labor separately from the parts price.

Ordering, cores and delivery

Use this checklist to compare the complete job cost before paying for an engine.

1

Send the vehicle details

Include the VIN, engine code, mileage, failure symptoms and photos. Tell us whether you need an engine shipped or want to discuss work at the shop.

2

Review the written quote

Confirm the exact assembly, included parts, core deposit, freight, tax and any installation work. Have availability and estimated timing confirmed for your order.

3

Plan the core return

A core is the original engine returned for inspection and possible rebuilding. Ask which assembly is required, its condition requirements and the return deadline.

4

Arrange transport

Provide the delivery address and explain whether a forklift, loading dock or liftgate is available. Confirm packaging, insurance, freight charges and who books the carrier.

Before the replacement is installed

Photograph the shipment, check the engine identification and compare it with the order. Report damage or a specification mismatch before installation. Keep the packaging and delivery paperwork.

Before the core is collected

Get return instructions first. Keep the required assembly complete, identify it with the order details, prepare fluids and openings as instructed, and secure it for transport. Core credit follows inspection, not simply delivery.

Engine questions

Is the listed engine price the total installed price?

No. The displayed amount is the base engine listing price. Core deposits, shipping, tax, installation and additional parts must be confirmed separately. Ask for the total scope before approving the job.

Why do you need my VIN if I know the engine code?

An engine family can cover multiple vehicle configurations. The VIN, production details and original engine identification help check the correct version and the parts needed for installation.

How much is the core deposit?

The amount is quoted for the particular engine and return arrangement. It is not included in the base engine price. Ask for the required core specification and refund conditions before paying.

Can a damaged core still receive credit?

Send clear photos and describe the damage before shipping. Refund eligibility depends on the agreed core conditions and inspection. A returned assembly is not automatically accepted for a full refund.

Can I reuse the parts from the failed engine?

Only after the installer checks their condition and the cause of the original failure. Follow the written requirements for oil-cooler and injector replacement, contamination removal, lubrication and cooling-system checks. Every remanufactured engine also requires a documented break-in oil and filter change at the supplied engine-specific interval.

Installation requirements
What is the turnaround time?

Contact us for availability and an estimate for the exact engine. Assembly requirements, core condition and transport affect the schedule. Do not arrange installation around an unconfirmed dispatch date.

Does an engine come with break-in instructions?

Request the written instructions for the supplied engine before its first start. Confirm the oil specification, initial operating limits and oil-change schedule. Do not use a general online mileage or RPM rule in place of the engine-specific instructions.

Is installation labor covered by the warranty?

The limited engine warranty covers only specified internal parts for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. It excludes installation labor, diagnosis, removal, freight and related expenses, subject to applicable law. Review the complete warranty and any different terms promised for your order before purchase.

Buying a used part? Review the item description, photos and invoice for condition and any item-specific warranty. An engine warranty does not automatically apply to every part.

Send the details that identify the part

A clear label photo and the VIN are more useful than a general description or a model name alone.

Vehicle and part information

  • Full VIN, model year and production date if available.
  • Complete part number, including any suffix or index.
  • Driver or passenger side, front or rear, and installation location.
  • Engine, transmission and drivetrain information relevant to the part.
  • Whether a new, used or remanufactured part is preferred.

Photos to include

  • One photo of the whole part and one of its identification label.
  • Close-ups of connectors, mounting points and damaged areas.
  • Both sides of an electronic module, where accessible.
  • Wheel size and offset markings for a wheel inquiry.
  • A photo showing where the component fits on the vehicle.

Before buying a replacement part

New, used and remanufactured parts

Ask for the condition stated on the actual listing or invoice. A used assembly and a rebuilt assembly are different purchases. Confirm what was inspected or replaced, which accessories are included, and the item-specific coverage.

Electronics and control modules

A matching case or connector does not confirm that a module is ready to install. Send the original and donor part numbers before purchase, and ask whether cloning, programming or coding is needed for your vehicle.

Parts for a modified engine

List the existing hardware and software changes. Pistons, rods, fasteners, valves, springs and camshafts are build-specific items; an engine-family label alone does not establish compatibility. Confirm parts and any required machining or installation labor together.

Condition, returns and warranty

Review photos and ask about damage, missing hardware and included accessories before ordering. Confirm return conditions and coverage for that particular item. The engine warranty does not automatically cover every part sold.

Limited parts warranty

A narrow warranty for specified internal parts of eligible remanufactured engines. Review the full terms before purchase or installation.

12 months / 12,000 milesWhichever comes first · eligible engine internals only
Parts onlyNo labor, diagnosis, removal or installation reimbursement
Original purchaserSpecified vehicle · personal road use · United States
Documented break-in oil and filter change required on every remanufactured engine. Oil and filter changes are required after the initial 30-minute heat cycle, then at 50, 500 and 1,200 miles. Keep dated mileage and service records. BMW S65 and S85 engines require 10W-60 oil. Read the documentation requirements.
Stop operation at the first sign of a problem. Continuing to drive with low oil pressure, overheating, abnormal noise, misfire or fluid loss can cause additional damage. Email us before repair or teardown so the cause can be documented.

Coverage and conditions

01. Limited coverage, term & eligibility

Project M Motors LLC Limited Parts Warranty. Warrantor: Project M Motors LLC, 50 Railroad Avenue, Paterson, New Jersey, United States. This voluntary warranty covers only the original retail purchaser of a remanufactured engine supplied by Project M for the vehicle identified in the order, in normal personal road use within the United States. It is nontransferable to the extent permitted by law.

Coverage ends 12 months after delivery or customer collection, or after 12,000 miles of operation following installation, whichever occurs first. The delivery or collection date starts the calendar term; delayed installation, storage or delayed first use does not postpone it. Record the VIN, engine identification, delivery date, installation date and odometer readings. A covered defect must arise during this period and be reported promptly as explained in section 07.

ProductVoluntary Project M coverage
Remanufactured engines12 months / 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Only the named internal parts and qualifying defects in section 02 are covered.
Other rebuilt assemblies, new parts, electronics and accessoriesNo automatic coverage under this engine warranty. Project M coverage exists only if a separate written, item-specific warranty is supplied before purchase. Any manufacturer's warranty is separate and governed by its own terms.
Used, salvage, cores and AS-IS itemsNo voluntary Project M warranty unless expressly supplied in writing before purchase. This statement does not itself disclaim implied warranties or other rights that apply by law.
Installation, diagnostics, coding and repair servicesThis product warranty does not cover those services. Any separate written service guarantee and applicable legal obligations remain in effect.

Future sales only: this policy applies to new purchases only when these terms are made available before the customer commits to buy. Existing purchases and orders retain the coverage and representations applicable when they were made. A later invoice or website change cannot reduce an earlier promise. A longer or different warranty expressly promised as part of a sale remains binding for that sale.

02. Exactly which engine parts are covered

Coverage is limited to a defect in materials or Project M's remanufacturing workmanship in the following internal parts, only where actually supplied in the purchased engine:

  • Pistons, piston rings and piston pins.
  • Crankshaft, main bearings and main bearing caps.
  • Connecting rods and connecting-rod bearings.
  • Camshafts and camshaft bearings.

A failure, warning light, noise, leak or poor running condition alone does not establish a covered defect. The claim evaluation must establish a defect in one of these listed parts or in Project M's remanufacturing work on that part. The warranty does not promise a particular service life, horsepower output, fuel economy or suitability for an undisclosed application.

All other parts are outside this voluntary engine coverage unless expressly included in a separate written warranty supplied before sale. Excluded items include the engine block, cylinder heads and castings; valves, guides, springs, seats, lifters, followers and rocker arms; oil pumps, pickups and shafts; timing chains, belts, gears, guides and tensioners; VANOS and Valvetronic assemblies; seals, gaskets, sealants, fasteners and external covers. The cost of an excluded part is not covered by this voluntary warranty merely because a listed part fails. Legal rights preserved in section 13 still apply.

Also excluded are turbochargers, superchargers, injectors, fuel pumps, manifolds, sensors, wiring, control modules, alternators, starters, mounts, air-conditioning parts, emissions equipment, cooling-system parts and any other accessories. An accessory shipped attached for convenience is not a warranted part of the engine. A rebuild description or a list of installed parts does not, by itself, expand this limited repair or replacement remedy or negate a binding description of the product sold.

03. Required installation & first-start procedures

Installation must be carried out competently, using the vehicle manufacturer's procedures and the written engine-specific instructions made available before purchase and supplied with the assembly. Installation requires the appropriate skills, tools and technical information. Retain the installation invoice or equivalent records identifying the installer and work performed. The installer must correct the cause of the previous engine failure before starting the replacement.

  • Oil cooler: replace an equipped engine oil cooler with a new, correctly specified unit. A cooler exposed to an internal failure must not be reused as a substitute for replacement. Clean or replace contaminated oil lines, housings and related passages.
  • Fuel injectors: install new, correctly specified injectors and complete required seals, calibration, coding and adaptation. Retain receipts and part numbers. Leaking or incorrectly operating injectors can cause fuel dilution, bore wash, hydrolock and bearing damage; resulting damage is excluded.
  • Contamination control: inspect and clean or replace the intake, sump, oil-filter housing, hoses, turbo oil circuits and other reused components affected by the prior failure. Remove metal, sludge, fuel, coolant and debris. Do not transfer contamination into the supplied assembly.
  • Lubrication: verify oil-pump suitability and condition, pickup and seals, prime the lubrication system using the specified procedure, and verify oil pressure before sustained operation. Do not use a damaged or contaminated pump. Retain the first-start oil-pressure reading.
  • Cooling: inspect the pump, thermostat, radiator, fans, hoses and related systems. Repair faults, flush where appropriate, fill with the correct coolant and bleed according to the vehicle procedure.
  • Assembly and setup: verify timing, torque values, required single-use fasteners, seals, wiring, fuel pressure, software compatibility, and all required adaptations. Use fluids and filters that meet the engine's technical specifications.
  • First start: check for leaks, abnormal noise, temperature, fault codes and pressure warnings. Stop immediately if readings are abnormal; do not continue running to see whether a fault clears.

Every remanufactured engine also requires the documented break-in oil and filter change described in section 04. Obtain the engine-specific interval before first start and retain the service evidence.

Replacement parts may be genuine or technically equivalent parts that meet the applicable specifications. Coverage is not denied solely because a particular brand or independent service provider was used. Failure to perform a required procedure excludes damage caused by that omission; unrelated covered defects remain subject to this warranty and applicable law.

04. Required documented break-in oil change & maintenance

EVERY REMANUFACTURED ENGINE REQUIRES A DOCUMENTED BREAK-IN OIL AND FILTER CHANGE. Complete and document each oil and filter change in the schedule below, based on Project M's supplied BMW Engine Break In Procedure. Mileage is cumulative from installation, not mileage since the previous oil change. This requirement applies to every remanufactured engine supplied by Project M. Ordinary scheduled maintenance later in the engine's life does not replace the required break-in service.

Obtain the engine-specific break-in sheet before committing to purchase and retain the copy supplied with the engine. Review it again before first start. It must specify initial operation, driving limits, permitted oil and the initial oil/filter-change interval. If that information is missing or unclear, contact Project M before operation. Do not guess an interval or substitute a universal procedure.

Required oil and filter changes

WhenRequired documented service
Initial heat cycleAfter approximately 30 minutes of the prescribed initial operation, shut down, allow a full cool-down, then change the oil and filter.
50 milesChange the oil and filter again. This is a required Project M rebuild service.
500 milesChange the oil and filter. The engine must be using fully synthetic oil by this service; retain the dated service record and product details.
1,200 milesChange the oil and filter and complete the post-break-in inspection for leaks, PCV/vacuum integrity and required diagnostic/adaptation checks.

All four services must be documented as they become due. If a failure occurs before a scheduled service is due, provide the records for services already due or completed; a future service is not a condition of that earlier claim. The initial fill or a later routine oil change does not substitute for a required break-in change. Follow the supplied engine-specific startup, load and RPM instructions, vary load and speed, and avoid full throttle or high boost until break-in and the 1,200-mile service are complete.

Fully synthetic oil by 500 miles

Every remanufactured engine must be using fully synthetic oil no later than the 500-mile oil and filter change. For engines other than the BMW S65 and S85, use BMW LL-01-approved fully synthetic oil in the 5W-30 or 5W-40 grade specified for the engine and application. Earlier break-in oil must follow the supplied engine-specific instructions. Do not wait until 1,200 miles to switch to fully synthetic oil.

BMW S65 and S85: 10W-60 required

BMW S65 and S85 engines require 10W-60 oil. The general procedure's SAE 30, 5W-30 and 5W-40 oil recommendations do not apply to those engines. Use an appropriate 10W-60 oil meeting the supplied engine-specific requirements, with fully synthetic 10W-60 in use no later than 500 miles; the documented oil/filter-change schedule still applies. Obtain written engine-specific instructions before first start if the oil product or procedure is unclear.

Keep and provide the break-in service documentation with any engine warranty claim:

  • The VIN or engine identification and Project M invoice/order number.
  • The service date, vehicle odometer reading, mileage at installation and miles operated since installation.
  • The oil brand, viscosity, required manufacturer specification and quantity used.
  • The oil-filter brand and part number, and the name of the person or facility performing the change.
  • A dated, itemized service invoice or receipt. For owner-performed service, retain a dated service log with the details above and dated receipts for the oil and filter; purchase receipts alone do not establish that the service was performed.

Failure or damage caused or contributed to by skipping or delaying the break-in oil/filter change, using unsuitable oil or filters, or failing to follow the supplied break-in instructions is excluded. Documentation is required to establish the service and help verify a claim. Where original records are unavailable, provide other reliable evidence for evaluation. Lack of a particular receipt does not automatically eliminate an otherwise proven unrelated covered defect or a nonwaivable legal right.

  • After break-in, follow the supplied oil/filter schedule and applicable manufacturer maintenance schedule, including severe-use intervals when applicable.
  • Check oil and coolant levels regularly and before extended trips; correct leakage promptly.
  • Do not apply high load, high boost or high RPM while cold or beyond the prescribed break-in limits.
  • Keep dated maintenance records with mileage, fluid specifications and filter/part numbers.
  • Stop use for abnormal noise, overheating, low oil pressure, misfire, fluid loss or warning messages. Arrange safe transport instead of driving an impaired engine.

Suitable fluids and filters may be obtained from any supplier, and qualified independent or owner-performed service is permitted. The requirement concerns correct, timely, documented service; it does not require paid service by Project M or a particular brand.

05. Excluded failures, uses & conditions

This voluntary warranty excludes failure or damage caused or contributed to by:

  • Incorrect installation, timing, torque, clearances, coding, adaptation or priming; incorrect fitment; or reuse of defective supporting components.
  • Oil starvation, low or excessive oil pressure, low or excessive fluid levels, unsuitable or contaminated fluids, sludge, fuel dilution, coolant contamination or foreign material.
  • Overheating, freezing, detonation, pre-ignition, over-revving, hydrolock, water ingestion, fire, collision, flood, corrosion or improper storage.
  • Defective injectors, turbochargers, oil coolers, cooling components or other external systems; an uncorrected original failure; or contamination remaining from a previous failure.
  • Neglect, missed maintenance, a skipped or late required break-in oil/filter change, failure to follow supplied break-in instructions, or operation after abnormal noise, misfire, temperature, pressure or fluid warnings.
  • Nonstandard tuning, altered boost or rev limits, ECU changes, emissions-system changes, nitrous or other modifications that cause or contribute to the failure.
  • Teardown, internal part replacement, machining, changes to clearances, unsuitable parts or incorrect reassembly that causes or contributes to the failure.
  • Racing, competition, timed events, track use, off-road abuse, overloading or operation beyond the engine's intended limits.

Normal wear, routine maintenance, adjustments, consumables, cosmetic conditions and ordinary operating characteristics are excluded unless they establish a covered defect in a listed part. A claim for oil consumption, noise or a leak requires evidence of a covered defect; this warranty supplies no separate performance or leak-free guarantee.

Engines purchased for commercial, fleet, rental, rideshare, competition, marine or other non-road applications are not eligible for this standard voluntary warranty unless Project M expressly accepts the application in writing before sale. Disclose the intended application and all known modifications before ordering.

Using an independent repairer, suitable aftermarket parts or owner-performed maintenance does not by itself cancel coverage. An exclusion for improper service, a modification or misuse applies to the failure or damage affected by that cause, not automatically to every unrelated defect. Nonwaivable rights are preserved in section 13.

06. Parts only: expenses & losses not covered

THIS IS A LIMITED PARTS WARRANTY. IT DOES NOT REIMBURSE LABOR, DIAGNOSTIC COSTS OR VEHICLE DOWNTIME. The approved repair or replacement remedy in section 09 is the extent of the voluntary coverage. These expense exclusions do not charge the customer for the engine repair performed by Project M or the replacement engine supplied under its approved warranty remedy. Unless Project M expressly approves an expense in writing or the law requires otherwise, the customer pays:

  • Diagnosis, inspection labor, scanning, oil-pressure, compression and leak-down testing, teardown and reassembly.
  • Engine removal, installation or reinstallation, accessory transfer, programming, coding and adaptations.
  • Towing, freight in either direction, packaging, insurance, storage and travel.
  • Fluids, filters, seals, gaskets, fasteners, shop supplies and supporting components, except an item expressly included in the approved remedy.
  • Rental or replacement transportation, loss of use, downtime, missed work, lost income, lost revenue or profits.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, PROJECT M EXCLUDES INCIDENTAL AND CONSEQUENTIAL ECONOMIC DAMAGES ARISING FROM A PRODUCT WARRANTY CLAIM, INCLUDING THE EXPENSES ABOVE AND DAMAGE TO OTHER PARTS OR PROPERTY. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so this limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.

These limits do not waive liability for personal injury, fraud, willful misconduct, or any liability or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded. They do not determine Project M's separate obligations for repair services it performs. A covered claim does not require the purchase of an upgrade, unrelated repair or service contract.

07. Required claim form & supporting evidence

Stop using the engine at the first sign of a problem and report it promptly by email. Warranty claims and claim-related questions must be emailed to projectmmotorsllc@gmail.com. Report during the coverage period whenever reasonably possible. A defect arising during that period remains eligible when reasonably prompt notice or evaluation occurs afterward, as required by applicable law; notification does not cover a new failure occurring after expiration.

To start a warranty claim, you must complete and sign the Project M Motors Engine Warranty Claim Form. Download the required claim form (PDF, 4 pages), complete all applicable sections, and sign and date the customer certification on page 4. Print and complete the form, or use a PDF annotation tool. Email the completed, signed form and the required supporting documentation to projectmmotorsllc@gmail.com. Mark an item not applicable or unknown when appropriate, and explain any unavailable information or records so Project M can request what is needed for review.

  1. Identify the purchase: name, contact details, invoice or other proof of purchase, VIN, engine identification, and delivery or collection date.
  2. Describe the installation and failure: installer, installation date and mileage, current mileage, first symptoms, failure date, operating circumstances and relevant modifications.
  3. Attach photos and diagnostic information: clear photos of the engine bay and installed engine, the current odometer, the diagnostic trouble-code report or screenshots, and photos or videos of the reported problem. Include available technician findings and test results listed on the form.
  4. Preserve the condition: retain fault codes, freeze-frame data, photos, video, failed parts and relevant fluid samples. Do not continue running the engine, clear useful data, discard parts or clean away evidence.
  5. Provide relevant records: each required break-in oil and filter change already due or completed before the failure, installation work, oil-cooler and injector replacement, first-start checks, subsequent maintenance and prior repairs. Break-in records must show the service date, odometer/miles since installation, oil specification, filter details and service invoice or owner log with receipts. Equivalent reliable evidence may be considered.
  6. Arrange evaluation: email Project M for written inspection and return instructions before authorizing claim-related teardown or shipping. Supply reasonably available diagnostic findings and allow a reasonable opportunity to inspect the claimed defect.

Submitting the claim form starts review; it does not approve warranty coverage or authorize disassembly, shipping, repair, replacement or reimbursement. Warranty claims must be submitted by email with the completed, signed form and supporting documentation. Do not call to file a warranty claim. A website inquiry does not submit a claim. Prompt notice remains important; provide the form and supporting records as soon as reasonably available.

Project M may request reasonable testing or records relevant to the reported failure. The customer is responsible for diagnosis and transport under section 06. A claim submission does not authorize paid repairs. Charges for separately requested services require agreement before that work begins.

Coverage requires reasonable verification of an eligible purchase, the covered part, the failure and the applicable term. Missing records do not automatically void an otherwise established claim. Materially false evidence, substituted parts, or destruction of evidence may justify denial of the affected claim where supported by the facts and permitted by law.

08. Teardown, outside repairs & return authorization

Obtain written claim instructions before opening the failed engine, machining it, replacing internal parts or shipping it for evaluation. Project M must have a reasonable opportunity to examine the claimed defect and preserve the evidence. Submitting a claim form, a return authorization or an inspection is not an admission of coverage and does not authorize repairs or reimbursement.

Internal work includes removing cylinder heads, opening the crankcase, changing pistons, rods, bearings, crankshafts, camshafts or timing parts, machining surfaces, and altering clearances or specifications. Photograph the condition before and during any agreed teardown and retain the removed parts and relevant diagnostic records.

Third-party replacement parts and third-party workmanship are outside this warranty. Replacing a Project M component with another supplier's component does not transfer this coverage to that component. Damage caused by incorrect torque or tightening sequence, torque-angle settings, reused single-use fasteners, incorrect bearing clearances, valve timing, sealing, contamination or other reassembly errors is excluded.

Project M does not reimburse outside diagnosis, teardown, repair, removal or reinstallation without prior written approval of the specific work and amount, except where the law requires otherwise. A repairer's invoice does not bind Project M. Written inspection permission alone does not authorize payment.

If alteration, cleaning, machining, disposal or unauthorized teardown materially prevents verification of the cause or eligibility of the affected claim, that claim may be denied to the extent permitted by law. Opening an engine, using an independent shop, or a missing seal or heat indicator alone does not automatically void the warranty. Document and promptly report emergency steps reasonably necessary to protect people or property.

Use the return address and packaging instructions provided for the claim; the business mailing address is not automatic shipping authorization. Do not send collect freight, unidentified parts, or a disassembled assembly without agreement. The customer pays return expenses under section 06 unless otherwise required by law.

09. Repair or replacement at Project M's discretion

For a verified covered defect, Project M will, at its sole discretion, repair the covered engine or replace it with a serviceable equivalent new or remanufactured engine. Project M determines which remedy to provide. Repair or replacement addresses the qualifying defect in a covered internal part and does not expand the covered parts, uses or conditions of this warranty. Project M pays for the approved engine repair performed by Project M or for the replacement engine itself. The customer's excluded expenses, including engine removal, installation, reinstallation and transport, remain governed by section 06. The customer may not choose the remedy, demand an upgrade, or authorize outside repairs at Project M's expense.

This voluntary warranty does not offer an engine purchase-price refund. The exclusive voluntary remedy is repair or replacement, selected by Project M, to the extent permitted by law. Project M will provide the selected remedy within a reasonable time after receiving the product and information reasonably needed for evaluation. This limitation does not exclude any remedy required by applicable law, including where the limited remedy fails of its essential purpose.

To the extent lawful, Project M's aggregate obligation under this voluntary warranty for an engine will not exceed the amount actually paid for that engine, excluding separately charged labor, freight, core deposit and other items. Core deposits remain governed separately by section 10. This cap does not limit mandatory legal remedies or apply when the law makes the limitation unenforceable.

A repaired or replacement engine or component carries only the unexpired remainder of the original term; it does not restart the calendar or mileage allowance, subject to any extension required by law. Return of the defective part or engine may be required as part of the remedy. A goodwill concession does not create additional coverage for unrelated items or future purchases.

Project M will state the claim decision and relevant findings. Additional relevant evidence may be submitted for review. No repair shop or other third party may approve expenses on Project M's behalf without written authority. Nothing here eliminates a binding sales promise or prevents a statutory complaint or court remedy.

10. Core return & refundable deposit

Engine sales require a qualifying core return unless a different arrangement is expressly agreed before sale. The engine price does not include the refundable core deposit. The amount and required core specification must be itemized before payment.

  • Return deadline: the matching core must be received within 60 days after delivery of the replacement engine, unless Project M agrees in writing to an extension.
  • Complete assembly: return the specified factory core, assembled from oil pan to valve cover with required original components. Do not dismantle it or substitute an incorrect engine.
  • Rebuildable condition: the block and heads must be suitable for rebuilding. Holes or cracks, unserviceable bores, damaged thrust or journal surfaces, irreparable threads, fire damage and other catastrophic damage can prevent full acceptance.
  • Additional components: unusable crankshafts, camshafts, valves, guides, VANOS and Valvetronic mechanisms may require deductions when outside normal rebuilding and consistent with the pre-sale core terms.
  • Return freight: the customer pays packaging, insurance and return shipping. Drain fluids as required by the carrier, cap openings and secure the core in an appropriate crate.
  • Inspection: refund eligibility and amount are determined after receipt and inspection. A partial refund, if offered, must have itemized deductions with supporting findings. An ineligible or late core may forfeit all or part of the deposit under the disclosed terms.

Receipt of a core is not automatic acceptance. Any extra repair, disposal or other charge beyond the agreed deposit requires separate authorization. Sending a core first to be rebuilt may avoid an exchange deposit where agreed in writing.

11. Shipping, delivery & transit claims

Project M is not a transportation company. At your request, we may help identify or coordinate with an independent carrier as a courtesy. The shipping agreement should identify who contracts with the carrier, pays freight, supplies insurance and handles a transit claim.

Inspect packaging and the product on delivery before installation. Photograph visible damage, retain packaging, note exceptions on the delivery receipt, and promptly notify the carrier and Project M. Follow carrier claim deadlines and obtain insurance appropriate to the declared value.

For a customer-selected and contracted carrier, transit risk is allocated under the agreed shipping terms and applicable law. We do not guarantee a carrier's schedule or performance. This policy does not disclaim responsibility for Project M's own improper packaging, misconduct, delivery obligations or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded.

Warranty return freight is customer-paid unless otherwise agreed or required by law. Obtain return instructions and authorization before shipping. Do not send a disassembled engine, collect shipment or unidentified package without agreement.

12. Fitment, returns & separate agreements

Supply accurate VIN, production details, part numbers and application information so fitment can be checked before purchase. Do not install a product that visibly differs from the ordered specification; contact us first. Providing fitment information does not excuse an incorrect representation made by Project M.

A warranty claim addresses an alleged defect and is separate from a change-of-mind return or cancellation. Any return window, restocking charge, special-order restriction or nonrefundable charge must be stated in the sale terms before purchase. A final-sale term, installation of the product or a change-of-mind return restriction does not cancel a covered warranty claim or a statutory remedy. This policy does not create an undisclosed fee.

Separate written agreements for installation, diagnostic work, special builds, commercial use or expressly expanded coverage should identify exactly what they change. Selling a tuning or coding service does not itself expand the warranty on another product.

13. Legal rights, pre-sale terms & prior purchases

This is a LIMITED WARRANTY, not a full warranty or a service contract. Its coverage is confined to the covered defects and the repair or replacement remedy in section 09. It does not disclaim the implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose where federal or state law prohibits that disclaimer.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE DURATION OF ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE IS LIMITED TO THE SAME 12-MONTH / 12,000-MILE TERM AS THIS WRITTEN WARRANTY, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you. A longer period required by applicable law remains in effect.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the exclusion or limitation in this warranty may not apply to you. No provision waives nonwaivable consumer rights, lawful product-liability claims, or a remedy where a limited remedy fails of its essential purpose.

The applicable warranty and any item-specific variations must be available before purchase and supplied with the sale. Ask for a copy before paying a deposit or placing an order. A separate written warranty must identify its covered product, parts, duration and remedy. A quote, listing, sales representation or agreement that promises different coverage must be resolved before purchase; a later invoice or this page cannot silently take that promise away.

For orders placed before this version applies, retain and refer to the warranty and representations provided for that order. Subsequent edits are prospective only and do not modify existing orders. If a provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions apply only to the extent consistent with applicable law.
